Global renewable energy investments grew almost seven folds from US$ 40 b. in 2004 to US$ 279 b in 2011. Indeed this spectacular growth was not sustainable and by 2013 investments dropped to US$ 240 b. Economic slowdown has hampered developed countries appetite for cleaner sources of energy. Interesting to note that developing countries has kept the pace. Although the investment in developing countries also dropped, the step was significantly smaller.
